Underworld U.S.A.

Samuel Fuller · 1961

The From Below Microcinema will be showing Samuel Fuller’s Underworld U.S.A. (1961) on Wednesday, 4/10, at 7:00pm

Here is the link to reserve a seat. Doors will open at 6:50 and we’re starting the movie at 7:10!

A massive influence on Scorsese’s great crime systems epics like Casino and Goodfellas, Samuel Fuller’s Underworld U.S.A. is a hard-edged backstreet brawl of a noir, in which one man, hellbent on revenge on the crime bosses that murdered his father, will stop at nothing to bring them down. In doing so, he has to go up against a world of organized crime that is at a massive fulcrum point, turning towards corporatization in order to resemble supposedly ‘legitimate’ operations in the world of finance and politics. Fuller brings his punchy (literally!) directorial style and crisp ear for dialogue, honed for years as a journalist, to this masterpiece that stands between his more conventional studio work and the deranged portraits of the steamy, perverse underbelly of the American ethos that he is perhaps best known for, Shock Corridor and The Naked Kiss. Starring a young Cliff Robertson (AKA Uncle Ben from the Tobey Maguire Spiderman)!
